You lay back on your bed, feeling the effects of your country's depression taking their toll on you. Your economy was in shambles, your government was corrupt, your people were suffering, and it was all piling up to make you horribly ill.

But you were a part of the Axis now, and you were doing everything you could to stay strong for them. The depression you could deal with. You could brush it off and smile away the pain, to make your allies not worry about you. Now that you could barely move, you were worried. What if Germany, the unofficial leader of your little group, now saw you as useless and threw you out in the cold? You were determined to hide this from the others at all costs.

The comforter around you did nothing to ease your chills, and your house was drafty and falling to shreds due to your economic troubles. Then your phone rang out, and you rose to grab it, taking the comforter around your shoulders. After hitting the button, you coughed for a second and watched the blood splatter your hands. Assuming it was your doctor, specialized in dealing with countries, you asked, "Hey, doc? Coughing up blood is bad, right?" No response followed. "Dr. Carrey?" you asked again, almost expecting to hear an automated voice or something.

"_____, are you really coughing up blood?" Germany's voice rang out over the other line.

"Dammit," you muttered, trying to think of some reasonable excuse for your words, "uh, no, I was just watching some stupid American T.V. where they brushed it off like it was normal."

Germany said, "I called to ask vhy you veren't at training today." He sounded concerned with something. Probably that you would fall behind.

"That was today?" you asked, so lost in this sickness you hadn't been able to think of much else. "Sorry, Germany. I guess I forgot."

You sounded exhausted, and you were trying your best to be upbeat. His tone said he wasn't buying it, "Zhat's not like you. Vhat's going on?"

"I-uh I've just been really busy. Listen, you probably guessed I'm expecting a call from my doctor, I'm sorry about missing training but I really can't talk right now." you said, trying to end this conversation. It was uncomfortable enough talking to his usually silent self in person, over the phone it was just weird.

Germany continued prodding, which was quite weird for him, "Vhy do you need a doctor, _____?"

"I-" you were cut off by another coughing attack. You put the phone face down on the bed and tried to control it as the blood splattered the crook of your arm. Finally you were able to stop, but looking at all the blood on you pajamas was sickening. "Holy shit that's a lot of blood..." Speaking of sickening things, you had to vomit. You picked up the phone, and tried to clear your throat, only succeeding in coughing once more. "Germany, I have to go."

"Vait! _____, vhat vas all zhat? Are you ok-" you pulled the phone away from your ear shakily, hung up, and ran to the bathroom.

What you didn't know, was that instead of hanging up you hit the speaker phone button.

~

"I-" you started coughing. The sound was terrifying to Germany, and he couldn't place why. It got quieter, and he thought you had set down the phone. He remained perfectly silent, waiting for an indication to do something. Your coughs died down, and he could feel relief wash over him. Then fear gripped him once more as you said clearly, even muffled by the bed, "Holy shit that's a lot of blood." Germany, paralyzed with an unknown fear, could only sit there waiting to hear more. He heard you pick up the phone, then clear your throat. Which only made you cough more. It was agony hearing you in such pain, then you just said, "Germany, I have to go."

"Vait! _____, vhat vas all zhat? Are you okay? Do you need help?" Germany roared into the phone, but just heard you press a button then the rustle of fabric. Over the line he heard light unsteady footsteps, then the sound of a toilet seat moving. Then horrifying retching.

Germany was shocked, and just sat there. Until you said quietly, "Vomiting blood. That's new..."

Then he shot upright, grabbing his car keys. Keeping the cellphone pressed to his ear, he started driving towards your house. When after the five minute drive, with him driving like a maniac, he hadn't heard you make a sound, he hung up. Pulling into your drive way he quickly parked and went into your house, not yet noticing how tumbledown and broken it had become. "_____!" he called out, once inside the little house. Hearing no response he made his way to your bathroom, having been here before. "_____, vhere are you?"

He hesitantly opened the bathroom door, a small blush on his cheeks, but it all faded away when he saw you crumpled in a ball shaking on the bathroom floor surrounded by blood spatter. Germany rushed to your side. He put a hand on your shoulder then shuddered, feeling how icy your skin was. Gathering your shivering frame up in his arms, he moved to take you to your bedroom. Then he noticed the state of your house. It was almost colder in than it was outside, and the comforters on your bed looked thin. Nonetheless he grabbed one and wrapped it around you crudely, trying to keep you warm. He carried you out to his car. Once you were shrouded in the cabin's warmth and driving away, you opened your eyes. Germany heard you ask lightly to no one in particular, "Did the Allies kidnap me?"

"Nein, _____. Your house is much too cold. It is not fit to live in anymore. You vill stay vith me until you recover, ja?" Germany said softly.

You frowned. "I don't want to bother you, Germany." you said, looking exhausted, but started coughing. Germany could see you covering your mouth with the blanket, then noticed your disgusted face as you examined the blood on it. "That's not good." you whispered.

"Nein. Nein, it's not. Let me help you, _____."

His icy blue stare remained on the road, you he couldn't see your face when you said, "You shouldn't waste your time on me. I'll only drag all of the Axis down."

~

Germany was silent for a time, but then he surprised you. "How can you say zhat?"

Your throat ached, and your body was racked with pain. You were holding back the violent coughing as best you could, but it was difficult, so you could only make a small, "Hm?" in acknowledgement.

"You are a part of the Axis. You von't drag us down, ve vill pull you back up." he said, pain in his voice. You guessed that he felt bad, and couldn't find the words to let you go. He had shown you his soft side before, he continually tolerated Italy for one...

Swallowing all the pain, you said, "I'm not worth the trouble. I'm just dead weight, Germany, cut me loose. You don't have the time or the resources to deal with me when I'm like this. I get it, you don't have to pity me." You heard him start to respond, but you couldn't hold it back any longer and started once more to cough. It seemed like you were attempting to hack up a lung, and with the blood splatter on the blanket you might as well have.

As the coughing died down, your (e/c) eyes started to feel heavy, and all you wanted was for sleep to overtake you. But there was a stabbing pain in your lower abdomen, so you just felt your eyes close as you let a low groan escape from your lips. "Zhere's no vay in hell I'm leaving you alone like zhis. I don't pity you, I care for you. I'm going to make sure you get out of zhis, vezher you like it or not." he said, in an 'end of discussion' kind of voice.

He... cares for me... was your last thought before you felt sleep finally overtake you.

The next thing you felt was the car stopping, and you could hear the doors slam. Then all of a sudden you were in Germany's arms, and in the blistering cold. Involuntarily you snuggled into his chest, your body attempting to bring itself closer to the heat source. He kicked open the door and you heard Italy immediately, "Germany!" Then his voice fell, "What's wrong with _____?"

Japan called out, "_____-san, are you aright?"

"She's sick." Germany said, and you were unable to even move. Italy started fawning over you, but Germany shooed him off, "Italy, she needs rest. Und you need to go avay for zhat to happen."

"But-" Italy started, but you opened your eyes.

You said quietly, "Italy, I'm fine. Go home."

Rather dejectedly he said, "Ve... Japan, want a ride home?" He lifted his head to see the Asian nation had beat the hell out of there. "Japan? Oh well. Hasta la pasta, Germany. And feel better, _____."

~

Why did I feel this way? Why was I so protective of this girl in my arms? Why did I want to kick Italy out of my house like a sack of potatoes when he tried to touch you? It didn't make any sense to Germany, and the feelings he felt for you were completely foreign.

He carried you into his bed room, as the bed was already made, and figured he would just make up the guest room. It was already rather late when Germany called you and he had to go to sleep soon to be able to wake up at four to train. Germany pulled back the freshly washed covers and placed you in the bed. Your (e/c) eyes opened, and widened, taking in your surroundings. "I'll get the sheets bloody." you whispered to him.

"I don't care, liebe." he said, lightly brushing a lock of (h/c) out of your eyes. Hitting the light switch he turned.

"W-Will you stay?" you asked, catching the hem of his shirt as he moved to leave. You stared up at him, tears brimming in your (e/c) eyes. Attempting to blink the tears brought on by the pain, all you succeeded in doing was allow them to flood over and down your face.

Germany frowned. He had never seen you so vulnerable and weak before. It truly saddened him. He nodded, "Ja, I'll stay."

"Thank you." you whispered. Sitting beside you on the edge of the bed, he leaned back, allowing you to grasp his large hand in your own.

When you squeezed it tighter he looked down at you, smoothing back your (h/c). "Vhat is it?" he asked, hating how badly you were feeling.

"I-It hurts like hell, Germany." you whispered, trails of saltwater leaking down your cheeks and shimmering in the dim light of the room.

He wrapped his arms around you and pulled you into his chest, offering you his warmth. You snuggled into him. Somehow knowing he was there for you, whether you liked it or not, was the most comforting thing in the world. He started to reassure you in hushed tones, "Don't vorry, _____. I vill help you, ja? Ve'll straighten out your government, and get your boss out of office. Zhen ve'll help your economy, alright?"

You nodded into his chest. Everything was going to be alright.
Don't really know where I was going with this. Is it even finished? I dunno... If you don't like the ending you can ask for more, I guess.

And a highly requested part two: link
