I'm Sorry: England x Sick!Reader

“_____, I love you more than anything in the entire world.” Arthur said.

You turned to look up at him, adjusting yourself as you rested in his arms. “And I you.” Sighing you looked at him. He was just everything you could ever want in a man. “But we need to talk.”

“What is it, poppet?” he asked, his expression immediately filled with concern.

You bit your lip. This wasn’t something you wanted to talk about, now or ever, but it was something you had to deal with. “I- I suppose it’s better for you to know.” you whisper quietly, taking advantage of his close proximity to not have to speak loudly. “I-I’m sick, Arthur.”

Immediately he tightened his grip on you, “Sick? What do you mean? Do you feel feverish? Do you need a doctor?”

“Arthur, calm down. I-I’ve been to a doctor.” You were quickly flashing from being too hot, to being freezing, but you remained in Arthur’s comforting embrace. “I don’t have long.”

He was silent for the longest time. If you hadn’t known him, you would have suspected he had fallen asleep. “You’re dying?” he finally whispered. Looking up into Arthur’s tear filled eyes, you could feel yourself tearing up as well.

You buried your head in his chest. “Please don’t cry, love.” you told him. “Y-You’ll make me cry too.” your voice broke.

“But-But you can’t die!” Arthur looked near hysterics. “How-How can you possibly be dying?”

Biting your lip again, you had no idea what to say. “I-I’m so sorry, Arthur. I don’t want to leave you alone again.”

“Don’t-” he was looking at you, mortified, “Don’t say that! Worry about yourself for once!” What seemed like yelling had originally escalated from whispers, so he was just talking to you in harsh tones. You trembled, more tears escaping from your (e/c) eyes. “Oh, love, please stop crying. I’m sorry.” Arthur regained his composure and pulled you closer.

He just held you, not knowing what to say. Arthur’s greatest joy in life was dying. Once again, he was going to be left all alone.
